Akron’s Rubber City Radio Group, which includes WAKR (1590-AM), plans to acquire WNWV (107.3-FM), for an undisclosed price.WNWV, based in Elyria, had long been known as “The Wave,” before dumping its 20-plus year-old smooth jazz format in 2009.WNWV now bills itself as V107.3 and has a format featuring a mix of alternative music and classic rock.WNWV has been owned by Elyria-Lorain Broadcasting, which is a subsidiary of Lorain County Printing and Publishing, which also owns The Chronicle-Telegram newspaper in Elyria.The deal has not yet been approved by the Federal Communications Commission, according to The Chronicle-Telegram.Elyria-Lorain Broadcasting will continue to operate its four other stations, according to the newspaper. They are WEOL AM, which broadcasts in the Elyria/Lorain area, and three stations in the Sandusky/Port Clinton areas: WLKR AM, WLKR FM and WKFM.WAKR’s website posted a story Thursday evening that said Rubber City Radio President and General Manager Thom Mandel said in a memo that Rubber City Radio officials do “not know what changes, if any, we will make.”Mandel added in the memo: “We do know that we will be required to move the studios out of their current location, which will be retained by WEOL,” according to the WAKR web site, www.AkronNewsNow.com.Rubber City Radio Group also operates WONE (97.5-FM) and WQMX (94.9-FM).Katie Byard can be reached at 330-996-3781 or kbyard@thebeaconjournal.com.
